Robert Paul Hanner, Sr., 73, of Parrott, Georgia peacefully passed away, with his wife by his side, at his residence on January 2, 2019. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Dawson. A funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Dawson at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019.

Interment will be held in Parrott City Cemetery with fellowship to follow at the Fancy Fig on Main Street in Parrott. Bob was born in Americus, Georgia on April 19, 1945. He attended Parrott Grammar School, Terrell High School, Gordon Military College in Barnesville and Georgia Southwestern State University.

He served in the United States Coast Guard in Vietnam. He was Vice President of the Georgia Jaycees and President of the local Jaycees. He served as a Georgia State Representative from 1975 until his retirement in 2013.

Bob also served on the Board of the Dawson Chamber of Commerce, as Chairman of the Department of Natural Res, Chairman of the Reapportionment Committee, Chairman of the Game, Fish and Parks Committee, and was Co-chair of the State-wide Water Management Commission. He was currently working for the Agriculture Water branch of the EPD. He was an active member of the Main Street Theatre and the First Baptist Church of Dawson.

He was also a Mason with P.T. Schley Lodge #229. He loved fishing with his boys and story-telling. Preceding Bob in death were his parents, Jack and Yip Hanner and his brother, Dick Hanner.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Matthews Hanner; three sons, Robert Hanner, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Fairhope, Alabama, Jeff Hanner of Parrott and Matt Hanner of Columbus; and two grandsons, Robert Hanner, III and Maxwell Hanner. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Dawson or to your favorite charity.
