OBITUARY Robert “Pete” Riedel February 12, 1940 – September 11, 2018 Robert “Pete” Riedel, age 78 passed away on September 11, 2018 peacefully at his residence in Shiloh, IL. Pete was born on February 12, 1940 in East St. Louis, IL to James and Mary Riedel. During life, Pete served in the Army Reserves.

When the time was perfect, he marries Esther Schomaker on December 28, 1963. Together they formed a family with three children; Terri, Robert (Bobby), & Kellie. He was a former co-owner of Riedel’s Restaurant in East St. Louis and Swansea.

Pete also worked as a chef at SWIC. Pete was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Lion’s Club and Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Some of Pete’s favorite hobbies included reading, trips to the casino, cooking, was an avid collector of tools and a poker player.

Preceding Pete in death are his parents, James & Mary Riedel; siblings: James Riedel, John Riedel & In-Laws: Joe Todoroff, Loretta & Ed Hodel, Robert & Mildred Schomaker, Bernard Schomaker, Daniel & Lois Schomaker, Elsie & Wes Little, and Theresa & Alan Benson. Surviving family members includes his wife Esther; children Terri (Timothy) Hall, Robert (Bobby) Riedel & Kellie (Thomas) Dekarske; Granddaughter: Samantha (E.J. Pisarski) Hall; Siblings: Barbara Todoroff, Mary (Phillip) Aleman, & Kathy (David) Bauer, and In-Laws: Linda Riedel, Rita Riedel & Geraldine Schomaker. Pete’s family would like to extend gratitude to Family Hospice of Belleville for their help and support during Pete’s final days.

There will be a Memorial Mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Shiloh on Monday September 17, 2018 at 10am. Family and friends are encouraged to meet at the church at 9am for a visitation. Memorial donations may be made to Family Hospice of Belleville or Operation Orphan through Corpus Christi Church, a charity that Pete believed in strongly.
