OBITUARY Robert “Pete” W. Dubose April 21, 1927 – September 12, 2018 Robert “Pete” Willis DuBose A man who loved God, his wife, and his family (in that order) A man who lived his life according to his faith A man of integrity This is a celebration of a life that experienced the love of God, the reality of the hope of heaven and the joy of salvation that only Jesus Christ has for us. Born on April 21, 1927 in Nederland, Texas, Pete DuBose was the second of eight children born to Myrtice Ella Rice and Lawrence Cullen DuBose, Sr He grew up during the Great Depression and understood the value of hard work.
On February 19, 1944, Pete enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific through the end of World War 2. He was stationed on Iwo Jima, where he built runways for American planes. Following the war, he continued his naval service near the Bikini Island Atoll during the atomic bomb testing.
Pete returned to Texas where he met, then married the love of his life, Marjorie Louise Harvey, on September 2, 1948. Through their marriage, Pete and Margie had four children, Joel Keith, Terry Lynne, Robert “Bobby” Willis, and Tamara “Tammy” Kaye. In 1956, Pete suffered the terrible loss of his infant son Bobby and in 2017 he lost his son Joel.
Over the years, Pete worked as a civil engineer throughout the Southeast Texas area. During the 1970s Pete felt called to serve his country once again through the Air Force Reserves. Throughout his life Pete served his church faithfully, whether through his skills as a civil engineer to help the church expand to singing bass in the choir to serving those in his community as a deacon.
Pete and Margie lived in the Southeast Texas area for 55 years in wedded bliss until she was called to her heavenly home in March 2004. Pete considered himself a married man, not a widower and anxiously awaited the day he would see his love again. In March 2010, Pete was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of visiting Jerusalem.
With new friends and family at his side, he walked throughout the holy land visiting the places mentioned in the Bible. Finally, after years of faithful service to the Heavenly Father, Pete joined his wife and sons in heaven on September 12th, 2018. Pete is survived by his daughters Terry Kibodeaux and her husband Edwin Kibodeaux of Orange, Texas and Tamara Payne and her husband Michael Payne of Beaumont, Texas.
He is also survived by six grandchildren: Chad Edwin Kibodeaux and wife Lori, Annette Kristine Stepan and husband Jason, Rachel Nicole Stein and husband Paul, Amanda Kathleen Middendorf, Jessica Danielle Lowrance and her husband Kyle, Benjamin Michael Payne and wife Jewel; 10 great grandchildren; 1 brother; Ted DuBose and wife Lucy of Vidor, 2 sisters; Myrtice Justice, Lola, and multiple nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Sunday September 16, 2018 from five p.m. to seven p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Pete’s Life Funeral Service will be held on Monday September 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with full military graveside rites and burial to follow at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
A sharing of remembrance reception will follow the committal service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, a charity that was close to Pete’s heart.
