Roberta Jean Sandlin, 81, of North Vernon, passed away at 10:58 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at her residence. Born February 21, 1938 in Jennings County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Esther (Robbins) Hartwell. She attended North Vernon High School and went on to work for and later retire from the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville.

She was a member of AmVets, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Moose Lodge, and the VFW. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, decorating, gardening, fishing, and camping. She is survived by her daughters, Dawn Sandlin and Dalynn (David) Lonsberry, both of North Vernon; and grandchildren, Dr. Devin (Dr. Emily) Sandlin and Jake Sandlin, both of Texas, and Molly Lonsberry, Cally Lonsberry, and Syler Jagger, all of North Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Derek Sandlin; and siblings, Marcella Patton, Shirly Adams, Edith Murphy, Russell Hartwell, and Joe Hartwell. A funeral service for Roberta will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with Rev. Dale Boyd officiating.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. Burial will be a Baldwin Cemetery.
