Rodney K. LaRue passed away peacefully on Jan 10th, 2019. He left this earth fully aware of the deep love and support his family had for him. Rod was a peaceful, gentle giant.

His unwavering patience was an inspiration to us all. He had a soul mate—his wife Jan. He honestly never got over her early departure almost 22 years ago.

Rightfully so. Rod served in the Air Force and worked for the Wisconsin Public Service Utility until his retirement. He mentored a son, daughter and 3 grandchildren to become all they could possibly be.

His living legacy is undeniably impressive. He loved the movies, science fiction, hand guns and traveling. Rod was a very technical person and was always challenging himself with adventure.

He began private pilot lessons at the tender age of 75 and was only one flight away from soloing. Rod is survived by his two children: son, Scott (Jamie), daughter, Jill (John); three grandsons: Steven, Brent (Sara) and Fox; a brother, Theron and a sister-in-law, Phyllis (Tom) Janssen. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond Street with Deacon Jeff Prickette officiating.

Rod’s family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Donations will be sent to St. Mary’s Church in Appleton, Animal shelter and the VFW. “Dad, you made the most impressive solo flight of your life last week, while continuing to mentor and teach us about what is important in life”.

We are eternally grateful and so very proud of you. “We love you forever…and It’s ok, Mom has been waiting a long time to see you again. We will all be together again someday, of this we are sure”.

Thank you for being the best husband, father and grandfather. You are our best friend. Love you, Family.
