Obituary for Roger Hill Rowbury ROGER HILL ROWBURY Roger Hill Rowbury, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and so much more, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family on September 5, 2018. Roger was born on November 30, 1943 as the sixth of ten children to Virgil Peter Rowbury and Leah Hill Rowbury in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He attended Warden High School in Warden, Washington where he was on the wrestling team, and played the clarinet in the All State High School Band and the State Future Farmers of America Band.

As a farm boy, he enjoyed John Deere tractors and raising prize winning pigs. Roger served a 2 ½ year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Bavaria, Germany mission from January 1963 – July 1965. Later in his life he also had the opportunity to serve with his wife in the Provo, Utah mission for the Daily Dose English Teaching Program.

Throughout his life he served in various bishoprics and so many other callings within the church. On June 8, 1966 he married the girl of his dreams, Rose Marie Pratt Rowbury in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had 10 children and currently have 46 grandchildren with another baby girl due in November.

At this time they also have 6 great-grandchildren. Family and Christ have always been his greatest joys. Roger nobly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War from October 5, 1965 – October 4, 1971.

He was active duty for the first two years and was stationed at Point Mugu near Oxnard, California. In 1971, Roger graduated from Brigham Young University with his Bachelors degree in Agricultural Economics. Much of his employment was in the agricultural field including running a 1000 acre potato farm.

Prior to his retirement, he worked 30 years for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a Senior Custodial Mechanic for 31 church buildings. He described his work details as fixing “everything that had moving parts and even some that didn’t”. His whole life was spent serving others, often choosing to be anonymous.

He was multi-talented and such a hard worker. He had a real skill for fixing things. Roger is the best example anyone could have.

He was honest, faithful, industrious, loving, and kind. He was funny and always tried to make people smile. He was strong in every way.

The most important things to Roger were his family and the church. Even in his last moments he insisted on needing to be surrounded by his wife and children to ensure they all knew just how much he loved them. Roger is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Pratt Rowbury, his 10 children, JulieAnn (Kris), Amy, Michael (Laura), Kathy (Ammon), David (Heidi), Stephen (Amy), Susann (Frans), Rachel (Brian), Annette (Bridgett), April (Garrett), his 46 grandchildren (with 1 on the way), 6 great-grandchildren, and 7 siblings.
