Ronald E. Abbott, 70, of Saegertown, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center. Ronald was born in Meadville, on March 31, 1948, a son of Lester E. and the late Betty (Mitch) Abbott. On June 21, 1969, Ronald married Kathleen Schlipf; she survives.

In 2008 Ronald retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad and had previously been employed by Conrail Railroad. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, the Bronze Star Medal and two Overseas Bars.

Ronald was a 1966 graduate of Cambridge Springs High School and previously attended Cussewago schools. He had a passion for classic cars and was especially fond of his Model T and 1967 Dodge convertible. On any weekend he could be found attending car shows with his family.

His greatest joy in life was time spent with family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed. In addition to his wife, Kathleen, of 49 years, Ronald is survived by three children Ronald Abbott (Sandy Crowell), Jennifer Rough (James), Lisa Heim (Jeffrey), all of Meadville, five grandchildren Kyle Rough, Rina Rough, Isaac Heim, twins Wyatt Heim, Weiss Heim, his father Lester Abbott of Saegertown, five sisters Jann Gray of E. Brady, Judy Loper of Saegertown, Sandy Ferry (Leroy) of Meadville, Katy Bowes (John) of Little Cooley, Edwinda Miller (David) of New Freedom, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, Ronald was preceded in death by two brothers, an infant Lester Abbott, Jr. and Carl Simpson. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2-6 PM at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. , 404 CHESTNUT ST.

, MEADVILLE, where a Scripture Service will be held at 5:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, 353 Pine Street, Meadville, at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 19, 2018, with Fr. Andrew Boyd, Parochial Vicar, officiating.

Ronald will be laid to rest in St. Agatha Cemetery with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine Street, or VFW Post # 2006, 1045 S. Morgan Street, both in Meadville, PA 16335. The family would like to acknowledge the staff of UPMC Hamot as well as everyone at Presque Isle Downs who showed such kindness, care and compassion during a difficult time.
