Appalachia, Virginia Ronald Gene Barnett, age 75, of Appalachia, VA, went home to be with our Father on Thursday, March 7, 2019. Ron retired from the United States Military with 8 years of active service in the US Air Force and 12 years with the Army National Guard. After his retirement, Ron enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.

He was a member of the Appalachia First Baptist Church. Ron was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Meta Barnett; parents, Roy and Viola Barnett; brother, Paul Barnett; and sisters, Inez Bouton and Irene Caudill. Left to mourn his loss are his son and daughter-in-law, Ron “Bubba” and Tammy Barnett; granddaughters, Hannah and Alexa Barnett; brother, Don Barnett; sisters, Nesbith Sturgill and Dorothy Stidham; a special brother-in-law, Jim Bouton; Meta’s beloved family in Canada; and his Central Drive-In family.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Appalachia First Baptist Church. Members of the National Guard and VFW will conduct military rites at 7 pm. A memorial service will follow with Dr. Nick Brewer officiating.

Ron was passionate about a Bible project in memory of his wife, Meta, that benefits patients of Southwest Virginia Regional Cancer Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Appalachia First Baptist Church, PO Box 423, Appalachia, VA 24216 to further the “Barnett Bible Project”. Memorial cards will be available at the church for those that would like to contribute to this worthy project.
