Ronald Lane Smith, 65, went to be with God on Friday, July 6, 2018. Ron was born on July 30, 1952 to the John Walter Smith and Frances Lane Smith of Greensboro, Maryland. Ronald was a graduate of North Caroline High School class of 1970.

He was employed by Bergey’s of Delmar, Maryland, when he became ill with cancer. Ronald loved his family and was devoted to them by always being available and ready to assist with any project or handyman job even when he was in pain. He loved his friends including members of the United People’s Church.

Ronald loved to do word search, go fishing, and watch NASCAR races on TV. He loved to watch the Cowboys football games, even though he was teased by Redskin fans. Ron is survived by his wife of 29 years, Jean Henry Smith, sons Jeffery Ronald Smith (Sheila) and Gregory Lane Smith, stepson Robert Fleck (Sarah), stepdaughters Tamela Everngam (Mark) and Kristen Hyland and a sister Sharon Gray (Doug).

Ronald was a grandfather and a great grandfather. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 11 am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to East New Market Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 280, East New Market, MD 21631 or to the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Company, 300 Charles Street, Hurlock, MD 21643.
