Ronald “Rip” Macleod On Sunday, September 16, 2018, Ronald “Rip” Macleod, passed away at home a couple of weeks after his 82nd birthday surrounded by his loving family after losing his battle with cancer and dementia. Rip was born on September 1, 1936, to Ronald Wendell and Mildred (Gould) Macleod. He spent his childhood in Lincolnville, Belfast and the Battery in Belfast where his love of boats and cars really took off.

As a young man he worked for his Uncle Robert Richards driving school bus in Lincolnville. He had many stories to tell about his days of tow barring cars back from Boston with his Uncle Bernard and Uncle Perry.

Later he worked for his brother Bobby Macleod at Macleod’s Furniture. Rip also worked at “Cantwell Oil”. Ted Cantwell was more of a friend than boss and treated Rip with a lot of restaurant outings.

After Cantwell’s company closed Rip worked until retirement as a Supervisor at Penobscot Frozen Foods. Rip enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was out on his boat fishing for mackerel, taking a Sunday drive or playing poker with family on Saturday evening and Sunday, without fail. Rip was predeceased by his parents, Wendell and Mildred, his twin sons, Ronald and Roy, his in-laws, Freeman and Daisy Gushee and his brothers Bruce Macleod and Bobby Macleod and Bobby’s wife Onie.

He, also, was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Harvard Bonin and Arlan Dakin. Rip is survived by his loving wife Dawn Gushee Macleod; his son Todd Macleod and his wife Michele, of North Berwick and their sons Spenser, Hunter and daughter Morgan; his son Randy of Belfast; his daughter Sherrye and her husband Joe, of Fairfield and their children Max, Diana and Connor; his son Ronnie and wife Carrie of Appleton and their soon-to-be baby boy Ridley; his brother Warren and wife Brenda of Morrill; his brother Wendell of Scarborough; and his sister Linda Marriner and husband Duane of Belfast. He is, also, survived by his sisters-in-law; Gloria Bonin of Las Vegas, Nevada; Sylvia Dakin of Searsport; Rhonda and Doug Stark of Canaan and Laurie and Toney Hall of Winterport and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours are being held Friday, September 28, 2018 at Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast from 5-7 p.m. The Funeral Service is being held at Swanville Community Church in Swanville on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 1 p.m. The committal will be directly after the service at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Swanville with reception to follow at the Church. Rip always had a great love for children and because of this love we are asking that in lieu of flowers please make a donation to a children’s Cancer fund of your choice.
