Obituary for Rose Katherine Svojger FORT WORTH – Rose Katherine Svojger passed away at a Fort Worth Hospital Sunday May 27, 2018, after a fall at her Ridglea Country Estate Home, 54 days before her 97th birthday. Rose was born July 20, 1921,in Forest Hill, Texas. Rose grew up on the family farm in the Forest Hill – Everman Area of Tarrant County, the daughter of a Master Stone Mason along with her mother, a talented grower of trees and flowers and her older brother, Joseph, Jr. Rose was the valedictorian of the first graduating class of 1937 at Polytechnic High School, at the age of 16 years old. In 1940, Rose received an Associate Degree from Brantley Draughon Business College.
After working at several local businesses Rose began her Banking Career as a clerk at the Fort Worth National Bank/ Texas American Bank and rose to the position of Secretary at the bank and assistant to the president and Chairman of the Board. She retired after 45 years. Rose was an active member of St. Patrick Cathedral and Catholic Daughters Society of America No.
209, she served as Sec-Treasurer of the 500 – member Texas American Bank Retirees Association. Arranging it’s annual Spring and Fall meetings and dinners until it was dissolved in 2008. The love of her life was as a member of the Fort Worth Botanical Society.
She gave generously of her time and money for the development of plants and flowers for the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. Rose in partnership with her attorney and lifelong friend, Meto Miteff developed Rose Crest Estates a 224-lot master planned development in Forest Hill where over 165 luxury class homes have been built and sold over the past three years. She spent time and money in helping to build the Forest Hill Library and the Forest Hill Memorial Park honoring Veterans and Citizens of Forest Hill, Texas.
Rose’s brother, Joseph Svojger was in the 16th Infantry, 1st Division, known as the Big Red One. He was a veteran of Combat in Africa, Sicily, Normandy, France and Germany. During the Normandy invasion he landed on Omaha beach.
D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was awarded the Silver Star. He was 25 years old when he was killed in action on Jan.
19, 1945, near Faymonville, Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he was reburied at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas. He never received his Silver Star Medal during his life.
In 2006, with the help of her friend, Meto Miteff and Congress Woman Kay Grainger, Joseph Svojger, Junior’s Silver Star Medal was delivered to his sister, Rose at a special ceremony held at the offices of Congress Woman Grainger. Rose has retained the medal as one of her prize possessions to this day. Survivors: Cousin, Jerry Milam; and other distant members of the Milam family.
