Ross Logan Ogden was born August 29,1994, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Raised with lots of books, nature documentaries, adventures, and lots of food he grew tall and broad shouldered. Rocking his red Capitals hat or jersey, Ross could always be found in a crowd.

A guy who filled the room when he walked in, both physically, and with positivity and laughter. Ross embodied a unique blend of comedic observation with exceptional impressions, a dry wit, and never failed to elicit laughter. He loved Kidpower.

Ross’ after-school hours in elementary and middle school were a blast. He excelled in math and science. Graduating from Northwood High School in 2012, Ross was beloved by his peers.

In the fall he wore the school’s Gladiator mascot uniform, hyping up crowds at games with his dance moves. Winters saw Ross swimming hard and playing with his brother and friends in the snow for hours. Come spring, he strode out confidently onto the lacrosse field as a long pole defender.

He could often be found playing catch with friends in his Silver Spring neighborhood. With an unmistakable swagger and an infectious grin on his face, he never backed down from a challenge and was a fearless competitor. Ross was a world traveler visiting Mexico, Canada, India, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Egypt, Zimbabwe, France, Italy, Bahamas and the United Kingdom.

He went scuba diving and snorkeling in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Ross was happy in nature and working with animals. He took part in wildlife preservation efforts, protecting nesting grounds and releasing baby turtles into the sea.

Ross was an avid sports fan. He rooted passionately for the Washington Capitals hockey team and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team he liked due to their swashbuckling logo and his grandparents’ connections to Florida. After an eventful freshman year at Salisbury University, Ross transferred to Coastal Carolina University to study Marine Science.

Making Dean’s list in the spring of 2017, after 2 years of chemo, was a of pride to Ross and all of us. Ross dreamed of advancing conservation and improving man’s understanding of the world’s oceans. An encounter with a hammerhead while scuba diving inspired him to study sharks.

Getting involved in hands on conservation work with sea turtles brought him great pride. He continued to learn, play lacrosse, and make friends everywhere he went. Part time jobs at PostMates, Uber, and videotaping the Coastal Carolina sports teams for the athletic department, helped his entertainment fund.

Bright eyed, always joking, and yet ever ready to engage in deep philosophical talks about the universe and purpose of life. Ross’ outlook was that to really live, you had to learn to enjoy your time here, have a sense of humor, and be kind to those who matter. Many were the days and long were the nights that Ross and company spent partying at the beach or in his parents’ welcoming and warm home in Silver Spring.

Our boy, Ricky Rosé, Rick Ross, Ross “the Big Boss of Lacrosse” Ogden is best remembered for his laughter, his unique perspective on life, and enjoying life to the fullest. At the end, he was surrounded by his family, as he wanted and departed peacefully. Ross is survived by his loving family and many friends; including his parents Neil and Ellyn Ogden, and his big brother Pierce.

Funeral Service will be on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Universalist National Memorial Church, 1810 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20009 at 10:00 am, with a reception to follow. Interment Private. In Lieu of Flowers, Ross requests donations to the Sea Turtle Conservancy or SARC.
