Roy’s Obituary Roy passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at his residence with his family by his side at the age of 78 years. He was born in Bay City on May 18, 1940 to the late Alex and Emma (Marquardt) Ebel. Roy graduated from T.L. Handy School in 1958 and immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force.
He proudly served for eight years as a Sargent and was honorably discharged. Upon his discharge from the Air Force he worked for Bay City Chevrolet (Powertrain) and retired after 37 years and went on to work for the next 10 years at Car Quest Auto Parts. He married the former Bonnie Jones on September 23, 1972 and were married for 46 years.
Roy enjoyed summer weekends at the cabin in Atlanta while his children were young and deer hunting season with his dearest and closest friend John Inda. He was an avid fan and enjoyed watching the Tigers, Lions and U of M sports. He was considered Mr. Fix It with a wrench in one hand and a roll of Duct Tape in the other.
Roy is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children, Roy (Sherry) Ebel, Kim (George) Marut, Kristy (Carl) McKee, Kelly (James) Witer and Matt (Jill) Ebel; twelve grandchildren who were the love of his life, Ken Ebel, Abigail and Jackson Marut, LCPL Troy (USMC), Connor and Carsyn McKee, Kendall, Graham and Avery Witer, Blake, Sammy and Jace Ebel; sister, Christine (Ron) Mielens; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kaye (Bill) Chalmers, Bob (Bonnie Cisco) Jones, Bill (Sherry) Jones, Gayle Baum, Peggy (Jerry) Brunner, Charlie (Judy) Brunner and Susan Brunner. He also leaves his dear friend of 60 years, John (Pat) Inda and a special neighbor and friend, Ruth Bolzman. As well as his furry companion, Snickers, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Josephine and Merlin La Rouche; sister, Katherine Janiskee; brothers, Richard Ebel, Lyle, Peter and Ken Brunner; sister-in-law, Julie Brunner and special niece Jodi Peplinski and two great nephews, baby Tyler Thomson and R.J. Jones. Funeral Liturgy and Committal will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Corpus Christi Parish– Holy Trinity Church with military honors under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council. The celebrant will be Rev.
Fr. Robert Kelm with private burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan. Mr. Ebel will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
