Roy Dean Rosenbaum of Vermillion, SD, passed away on April 14, 2018 at his home east of Vermillion after a brief battle with cancer. Roy was born on June 26, 1947 in Sioux City, Iowa to Robert and Sylvia (Hummel) Rosenbaum. Roy grew up along the Missouri River near Jefferson, SD.

As a child, he spent all his spare time hunting and fishing. This passion stayed with him throughout his entire life. Roy loved the outdoors and cherished spending time with family and friends.

Roy loved playing… Read More » cards, especially the Saturday night poker games. Roy was blessed with one son, Chad, and one grandson, Max. Roy owned and operated Roy’s Auto Repair for many years.

During this time period, he built Ford pulling trucks and traveled throughout the United States pulling professionally. Roy met Penny Ascheman and they moved to Webster, SD and purchased the Grenville Sports Mart on Waubay Lake. After 13 years of operating their business, Roy decided to retire and they moved to Vermillion.

Roy is survived by his significant other of 20 years, Penny Ascheman of Vermillion, his mother, Sylvia Rosenbaum of Elk Point, a son, Chad (Heather) Rosenbaum of Sioux City, IA; a grandson, Max Rosenbaum of Sioux City, IA; two brothers, Rodney (Shirley) Rosenbaum of Elk Point, and Terry (Sue) Rosenbaum of Jefferson, and several nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his father, Robert Rosenbaum, his brother, Paul Rosenbaum, and one nephew, Scott Rosenbaum.
