Roy Eugene Johnson of Taylors Falls, MN passed away on January 8, 2019, at the age of 84. Roy was born on April 19, 1934, to Algot and Agnes (Nelson) Johnson in White Bear Lake, MN. The family moved to Bruno, MN and then in 1940 moved to a farm in Palmdale, MN.

He was confirmed and a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund, MN. Roy graduated from Taylors Falls High School in 1952. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1956-59 and was stationed primarily in Germany.

… Read More » Before and after his service he helped out on the farm and worked for a school supply company in the Twin Cities. Roy had known Donna Thorsell from Luther League at church. They started dating and were married at Immanuel Lutheran on September 5, 1959.

They moved to a farm near Palmdale, MN where they lived for over 58 years of marriage and raised 3 boys. Roy grew crops and raised beef cattle. To supplement this, in 1962 he started driving school bus.

Little did he know that he would end up driving bus for over 30 years for Taylors Falls and Chisago Lakes Schools. He was a Shafer Township board member for over 40 years and was active in the Lions Club and VFW. He was the church custodian and cemetery caretaker for many years.

Roy enjoyed attending and watching sports of all kinds. He liked going out to eat and playing cards with friends and family. He especially enjoyed coffee, treats, and socializing after events, especially Sunday church services.

Roy is survived by his sons, Wayne (Rachel), Vern (Julie), and Darin (Ann); grandchildren, DeAnna, Jodi, Elizabeth, Adam, and Sarah; six great grandchildren; brother, Lloyd; sisters, Alice and Harriet; and many other family and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his parents; brothers, Iver, Herman, and Harry; daughter in-law, Cindy Johnson; and grandson, James Nesbitt.
