Russell Allen Hunt, our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, oldest brother, and an honorable soldier of the United States Marine Corps, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from a long-time battle, 16 years, with multiple cancers, at the age of 75. Russell was born on August 22, 1943 in Farmington, New Mexico, to Wilbert Russell Hunt and Goldie LaJune Selby Hunt. He was their first child and grew up in Kirtland, New Mexico.

He started high school and loved two things…football and cars. He played football and when it was graduation time, he was more than anxious to see the rest of the world. He went to Brigham Young University in Provo, UT and there, he met the love of his life, LeAnn Monsen.

However, because it was the Vietnam War, he served the United States and joined the Marine Corps. He was soon shipped to war. After his service for a couple of years, he was honorably discharged.

He then married his college girlfriend LeAnn Monsen in La Habra, CA on May 17, 1969. They were later sealed at The Church of Jesus Crist of Latter-Day Saints Los Angeles Temple on November 11, 1977, which coincidently, was a birthday present for LeAnn. Russell quickly become a Journeyman Plumber and then a Master Plumber as he trained new Apprenticeship Plumbers.

He could make or fix anything. He was so busy working and building new homes that more than once there was a plumbing problem at his own home. He also enjoyed having a nice yard and garden with lots of fruits and vegetables.

He had several callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all his life including Librarian, Deacons Quorum teacher, Assistant Boy Scout leader, and many, many more. He also liked jokes and even though many family and friends were a little afraid of him given his size and strength, they soon would realize that he was really a nice and loving person that would help them anyway he could…as well as tell them some jokes to make them smile, especially in difficult times. He is survived by his wife, LeAnn, and his six children: Renee (John) Lundberg, Lesa (Chip) Halford, Aaron (Heather) Hunt, Jeremy (Tonja) Hunt, Vanessa (Kevin) Dextor, and Ethan (Verna) Hunt.

There are 40 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers: Sandra Schreiter, David Hunt, Jeff Hunt, Stephen Hunt, and Christine Hunt. He was predeceased by his mom and dad, one of his younger brothers, Roger Selby Hunt, and one of his grandchildren, Devin Lundberg.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Saratoga Springs 3rd Ward, 49 E. Centennial Blvd. , Saratoga Springs, UT 84045. Family and friends may visit a viewing on Friday at 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.

Interment will be at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Rd. , Bluffdale, Utah 84065. In lieu of flowers, please donate and support the surviving families of deceased soldiers, police officers, and firefighters in your local areas.
