Russell Hume Shifflett, December 29, 1940 — May 09, 2019

Russell’s Obituary Russell Hume Shifflett, 78, of Elkton, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at his home. He was born December 29, 1940, in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Lonnie Elbert and Frances Mae Comer Shifflett. Russell will be remembered for his joking and outgoing personality, his big-hearted ways and the deep love and devotion he had for his family.

He retired from Nielson Builders as a brick and block mason and had previously worked with various area contractors. Prior to a career in construction, he was employed as a barber, carpenter and electrical lineman. He will be greatly missed.

On October 31, 1962, he married, Bernice Marie Shifflett, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Shifflett of Elkton; brothers, Lonnie “Bud” Shifflett, Jr. and wife, Betty and Michael Shifflett and wife, Debbie, all of Elkton; sisters, Dorcas Shifflett and husband, Dewey of Dyke, Shelby Hensley and husband, Lawrence of Elkton and Carolyn Shifflett and husband, Roger of Charlottesville; grandchildren, Brittany Shifflett and Tristan Dean; one great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Sheaves. He is also survived by his aunt, Mary Lam of Elkton and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Shifflett Kisling; granddaughter, Lauren Dawn Shifflett; brother, Wade Shifflett and nephew, Randall Hensley. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Family and friends may visit the home at any time.

Pastor Robert Wenger will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019, at the funeral home chapel in Elkton. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.
