Ruth’s Obituary Ruth E. Slotten, 89, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at her home in Platteville. Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery, Belmont, Wisconsin.

Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Ruth E. Slotten Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.

melbyfh.com. Ruth was born in LaMoure, North Dakota on November 8, 1929, the daughter of Ferdinand and Anna (Schmidt) Ferch and grew up on the family farm. After graduation from LaMoure High School, she worked as a dental assistant in LaMoure until her marriage to Wallace Andrew Slotten of Wahpeton, North Dakota on November 9, 1951.

She was a dedicated homemaker following her husband as his work and career led them to Wyndmere, North Dakota, Windom, Minnesota, Uganda and Kenya, East Africa, Washington, D.C., St. Louis, Missouri, and Indianapolis, Indiana. They retired to Galena, Illinois in 1994 and later moved to Platteville in 2007. Ruth enjoyed retirement years in Galena and Platteville, enjoying her interests of sewing, cooking, and her flower gardens.

Her daughter, Susan, lived with Ruth the past 10 years, providing care and support that allowed her to remain in the comfort of her own home. Ruth is survived by three children, Sharon (Steven) Craven, Kevin (Michelle) Slotten, and Susan Slotten; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Mieke) Craven, Joanna Nechvatal, Joel (Kara) Craven, Susanna (Steven) Swenson, Stephane Slotten, Marianne (Michael) Tovo, and Delphine Slotten; eleven great-grandchildren, Ellery and Ava Craven, Isabelle and Isaac Nechvatal, Carter and Nalia Craven, Sawyer, Svea, and Symon Swenson, and Tristan and Jamison Tovo; brother, Julius (Grace) Ferch; sister, Lois (Ruben) Lackman; sister-in-law, Helen Slotten; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace, and granddaughter, Sarah Anne Craven.
