Ruth Edna (Coonfare) Wheeland 92, of Ashley, formerly of Radnor, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019. She was born on May 14, 1926 in Delaware to the late Clyde C. and Edna E. (Davis) Coonfare. Ruth was a lifelong resident of Radnor and a 1944 graduate of Radnor High School.

After high school she attended business school in Columbus, Ohio. Upon graduation she worked in Columbus before returning to Radnor and joining the Ohio Wesleyan University staff. She had in over 35 years of service with the university.

She also participated in the family farm activities and business. She married Alfred Eugene (Gene) Wheeland September 3, 1950. They were married for 44 years before his passing.

She was a life-long member of the Radnor United Church of Christ. Ruth is survived by her son David (Judy) Wheeland of Ashley; grandsons Jeffrey (Katarina) Wheeland and Gregory (Jessica) Wheeland and great-grandchildren Emmerson, Dexter, Owen, and “plus one” soon to be. John (Leslie) Coonfare of Radnor and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband Gene Wheeland and parents Clyde C. Coonfare, Edna E. (Davis) Coonfare, brother Richard (Betty) Coonfare. She was a charter member of the Beta Phi Sorority and still attended meetings until recently. Also a member of the Radnor Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, Radnor Alumni Association and Radnor Heritage Society.

She was a volunteer for PIN and Grady Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed walking, puzzles, crosswords, knitting, collecting glass slippers, playing cards with long time card club members and enjoying time with her family and friends. 43015. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 am in Radnor United Church of Christ; 4407 State Route 203, Radnor, OH. 43066.
