Ruth Elizabeth Hulsing, 85 of Carroll, died Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Accura Healthcare of Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at St. John Paul II Parish – Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr.

Kevin Richter. Music will be by Marcy Anderson and the Holy Spirit Resurrection Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Stephanie Hackfort.

Jessica Duff, Regan Hulsing, and Gabrielle Hulsing will present the offertory gifts. Eucharistic Minister will be Joni Badding. Casket Bearers will be: Seth Renze, David Duff, Nick Hulsing, Joe Janning, Mitch Janning, and Matt Hackfort.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 p.m. on Monday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church on Tuesday morning where additional visitation will be held from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Ruth’s family at www.

sharpfuneral.com. Born on October 31, 1933 at Carroll, Iowa, Ruth Elizabeth was the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Nurse) Boyer. She attended St. Joseph grade school in Carroll and later graduated from St. Angela’s Academy in 1952.

Following her schooling, Ruth was employed at Woolworth Department Store in Carroll. On August 30, 1958, she was united in marriage to Earl Bernard Hulsing at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Carroll. Ruth was a devoted homemaker and also owned and operated Denny’s in Carroll with her husband Earl from 1976-1988.

Ruth enjoyed playing cards, gardening and hosting her family for holidays and special occasions. She was a member of St. John Paul II Parish – Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. Left to celebrate her life is her children: Jane Renze and husband Rick of Carroll, Barbara Janning and husband Randy of Carroll, Steven Hulsing of West Des Moines, and Carol Hulsing of Carroll; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother, Joe (Nancy) Boyer of San Jose, CA; her sister, Virginia “Ginger” Garrett of Des Moines; sister-in-law Virginia (Dick) Gettler of Hospers; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helen Boyer; her husband, Earl Hulsing, in 1999; her daughter-in-law, Lisa Hulsing; her sisters: Claire Laine, Florence Jentzen, Mary Tilton, Joan Clayton, and a sister Dorothy Boyer in infancy; and her brothers: John “Bud” Boyer, Gene Boyer, and Jerry Boyer.
