Mrs. Ruth S. Gaddy, 83, passed away Friday, February 22, 2019. She was born in Wilkes County to the late Rom Alonzo Shumate and Inez Mae Shumate. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Boyce M. Gaddy, brother, Jack G. Shumate, and sister, Betty S. King.

Surviving are one sister, Belva (Beverly) G. Shumate of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Wade L. Shumate of Winston-Salem and Ray Shumate of Chesapeake, VA; two sisters-in-law, Gayle Shumate-Harsh of Warrenton, VA and Brenda Shumate of Chesapeake, VA; two special friends, Mitch and Martha Darnell of South Carolina; and many nephews and nieces. In her early life, Ruth had a passion for traveling. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

Her greatest devotion and philosophy in life was to family, serving God through acts of love and service towards one another. She always put others first and will be greatly missed. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 2 pm at Parklawn Memorial Park with Rev.

Frank Shumate officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 pm prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, PO Box 20424, Winston-Salem, NC 27120 or Salem Baptist Church, 4295 S. Broad Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
