Mr. James David “Jim” Robbins, 59, of Winston-Salem passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at his residence after a brief illness. Jim was born in Passaic County, New Jersey to the late Charles Philip Robbins Jr. and Virginia Agnes Robbins (nee Weir) on April 10, 1959. Jim graduated from Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey in 1977 and went on to study Broadcast Journalism at the University of South Carolina.

Jim followed his DJ/Radio host career and other work which took him around the US: from New York to Florida, Georgia to New Mexico, and Kansas to North Carolina, where he enjoyed life and making new friends. He finally settled down in North Carolina and had a long tenure “on air” and in engineering with local Triad radio and TV stations, especially WXLV ABC45. It’s no wonder why he was successful in both his career, as well as in meeting and greeting friends, old and new; Jim had a passion for music and loved to talk.

He also loved to travel. Whether by car for upwards of 10+ hours to visit family in NJ, or by air for a family visit to Austria or to Germany for live coverage of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” concert at the Berlin Wall, Jim was always ready and willing to go. He also enjoyed his extensive “vintage vinyl” album collection, playing keyboards and restoring vintage radios and jukeboxes in his spare time.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his namesake uncle, James David Robbins, who was tragically killed in a US Navy plane crash in 1954. He is survived and will be dearly missed by daughter Anna Ritchie and granddaughter Ava Hayes of Raleigh, NC; sister Karen Giacomarro of Allendale, NJ and brother, Mark Robbins of Plymouth, MN; niece Julianne Giacomarro and nephews Michael Giacomarro, John Robbins and William Robbins. A memorial service will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller, Silas Creek Chapel, with Rev.

Tom Clocker officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104 or American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215. Online condolences may be sent at www.
