Obituary for Sadie Elizabeth Wallin Sadie Elizabeth Wallin, 92, died January 30, 2019 at the Mars Hill Retirement Center where she had been a resident for the past six years. Born May 26, 1926, in Madison County, she was the only child of the late J. Bryan and Mamie Victoria Tillery Wallin. Her funeral will be at the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service, 7626 Highway 213, Mars Hill, NC, on February 4, at 11 a.m. preceded by visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sadie is survived by her aunts N. Gwendolyn Tillery of Mars Hill and Otelia Pace Tillery of Taylors, SC and a host of cousins and friends. She graduated from Mars Hill High School, Mars Hill College and Western Carolina College and taught elementary school for some 30 years in Canton and Mars Hill. She was a dedicated member of the Mars Hill Baptist Church where she was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and active participant in Baptist activities at the association and state levels.

She was a tireless advocate for broader, more meaningful leadership roles for women in all churches, not just Baptist churches. She loved Mars Hill College, now University, and served the school in many ways including on the Board of Advisors from 2001 to 2013. She would have relished its new University status.

She was a tireless advocate for the Town of Mars Hill. Sadie had a passion for reading, gardening, sewing, knitting and travel. With friends, family and colleagues she traveled extensively in the United States and visited every continent.
