Obituary of Sally Ann Spennacchio Obituary for Sally Ann Spennacchio Mrs. Sally Ann Spennacchio (Nilsen), of Rochester, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the age of 83. Sally was born to parents Carl & Dorothy Nilsen on July 10, 1935 in Harrison NY. She grew up with her brother Peter and attended Harrison High School.

Sally attended SUNY Brockport College and took classes for a semester in Oslo, Norway. While attending Brockport she met Anthony Spennacchio and they married on January 11, 1958. Sally and Anthony spent 55 years happily married.

Sally was a Physical Education teacher who continued to teach early in her marriage. With the arrival of children, Sally became a full-time homemaker. As her 5 children grew she worked at Country Gentleman Hardware Store for 17 years helping customers and making many great friends.

Sally also volunteered as a docent at The George Eastman House and The Hinchey House in Gates. Sally enjoyed going to the Garden Vibes Concerts at the George Eastman House, Concerts by the Shore, attending local festivals, plays at Geva Theatre, camping at Hamlin Beach State Park, reading, gardening, bird watching, bowling and playing golf with her friends, and spending time with family and her grandchildren. In 2007, Sally was thrilled to visit Norway with her niece MaryEllen and reconnect with family.

She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. Sally lived at College Greene Senior Apartments in North Chili where she had many great neighbors and friends. Sally was pre-deceased by her loving husband Anthony Spennacchio, father Carl Nilsen, mother Dorothy Nilsen, brother Peter Nilsen, Mother-In-Law Mary Spennacchio, Father-In-Law Savino Spennacchio, brother-in-law Mauro Spennacchio, sister-in-law Annette Spennacchio, and cousin John Paust.

She is survived by her children Sam Spennacchio, Dorothy (Jeff) Wittman, Rose (John) Marcello, Catherine Spennacchio, Ann Schubarg, 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Elizabeth Damm (Nilsen), brother in law John (Judy) Spennacchio, sister-in-law Ruth (Don) Palermo, sister-in-law Veronica Spennacchio, cousin-in-law Lana Paust, and many nieces, nephews & friends. Sally’s funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 11, 10:00 am at Holy Ghost, 220 Coldwater Rd. , Rochester 14624, immediately followed by Sally being laid to rest in Holy Ghost Cemetery.
