Sammie G. Stroud, 67, of Caledonia passed away peacefully Friday, May 4, 2018 at Wesley Willows in Rockford. He was born to Lester and Lucille Stroud in Belvidere, Illinois on April 29, 1951. Sammie graduated from Guilford High School and Rock Valley College.

Sammie worked at Blain’s Farm and Fleet in the small engine department until April of 2017. Survivors include his brothers, Ronnie (Diana), Terry (Linda); sister, Tammy (Bob); ten nieces and nephews; five great-nieces. Sammie was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Lucille Stroud; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was a Founding Collector and Lifetime Member of the National Toy Farmer Association, Dyersville, Iowa and the Machesney Park Raceway. Sammie enjoyed NASCAR and racing of any kind. He was a loyal and devoted son, brother and uncle.

Sammie’s family wishes to thank the nurses and staff on the Harbor Lights unit at Wesley Willows, the nurses and staff at the Mercy Health Cancer Center and Mercy Hospice team and Dr. Hosne Begum, who all provided such wonderful care and concern. A celebration of Sammie’s life will be held on the family farm on Sunday afternoon July 22, 2018. All who knew Sammie are invited.
