Sammy Max English was born on May 8, 1940, in Lindsay, Oklahoma, to Lonnie and Alia English. He passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019, at his home near Comanche. He was 78.

Family visitation is scheduled for Monday, March 11, at 5:30-7:00PM at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, March 12, at 1:00PM at Chisholm Trail Cowboy Church, 278935 E. 1780 Road, with Kirby Kelly officiating, assisted by Gary Davis and Lance Smith. Interment will follow in the Marlow Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home. Sam graduated from Hughes School in Lindsay. He married Glenda Garvene Robbins in Wichita Falls, Texas, on October 29, 1976.

He was a rancher by trade and loved riding horses. He raised and ran Quarter Horse racehorses and was a member of the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association. Sam was always willing to help friends work their cattle.

He enjoyed being outdoors. Most of all, he loved his family. Sam is survived by his wife, Garvene; children, Catherine and husband Randy Hay, Deana English, Robin Stone, Holly and husband Brent Green; grandchildren, Trey and Kindra Harris, Madison English, Kyle Hay, Max English, Hannah Dillon, and Camden Green; great grandchildren, Kasen Harrris, Hagan Harris, Emerson Harris, and Louden Harris; brother, Don and wife Carla English; and sister-in-law, Carrie English.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Alia English; son, Trent English; and brothers, Ross English, Terry English, and infant brother John English. Serving as pallbearers will be Trey Harris, Kyle Hay, Max English, Jay Patton, Leroy Anderson, and Garrett Copeland. Honorary pallbearers will be Freddie Craig, Buddy Covington, and Kevin Wright.

Memorial contributions can be made in Sam’s name at the Taylor LeNorman Cancer Center, 2110 Duncan Region Loop, Duncan, OK 73533. Online condolences can be made to the family at www. whittfh.com.
