Obituary for Sara N. Weidner Sara “Declan” Weidner, 22, of Enfield, beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin and friend, passed away unexpectedly on January 7, 2019 after battling with addiction. Sara was born in Hartford, CT May 8, 1996 to Chris and Annette Weidner. Sara was a spunky, mischievous and funny kid, who enjoyed playing soccer, coached by her dad.
She had a high-pitched voice that we all loved – sweet Sara. Once she entered high school, she continued her involvement in sports and joined the volleyball team, but at the age of 13, her life changed immensely when she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. This caused her unbearable pain, preventing her from continuing to do some of the things she loved.
Although she was unable to continue participating in much physical activity, she found a passion for art, photography, and writing, and did a lot of journaling. Unfortunately, the Lyme disease took over, and the spark left her eye. This disease brought with it severe physical pain, and an unfortunate battle with mental illness.
Her search for a solution and a way to escape the pain sadly led to her struggle with addiction. As her struggle continued, a decision was made to fly her out to California to begin her recovery at Anchored Tides. She was placed in a program with other young women, who she grew to care for very much as they all supported one another in their goals of recovery.
Sara found herself missing family and friends and chose to return home in September. Sadly, her struggles returned with her. We are so grateful to have been able to see her smiling face, hear her voice, and be embraced in her hugs over the past few months – a length of time that was nowhere near long enough.
She will be greatly missed by so many people who love her. Sara is survived by her parents, Chris and Annette (Chaloux) Weidner, her sister, Ashley Weidner and her paternal grandmother, Margaret Shaldone. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Claire and Camille Chaloux, as well as an uncle, John Weidner. Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, and Saturday Jan.
12, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd. , Enfield. Burial is private.
