OBITUARY Sarah Bernice Stacy February 6, 1918 – August 30, 2018 Sarah Bernice Krout Stacy, age 100, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2018 at the Bibb Medical Center Nursing Home. She was the youngest daughter of Dr. C.F. Krout and Katherine Krout of Brent, AL. Educated in Bibb County, and later at the University of Alabama, she was active in the UA Delta Zeta sorority, Black Friar, Crimson and White staff, and played on the golf team.

Mrs. Stacy received her undergraduate Degree in Education and later a Masters Degree in Library Science. After teaching for a few years in Bibb County, she felt called to join the war effort, working at Bechtel McCone Aircraft Division for three years. After the war, she returned to Bibb County and married a young Army war veteran, Lt.

George Harper Stacy, Jr. The couple was known for their interesting and fun dinner parties, where good food and good music and good times were key ingredients. She spent 34 years as a teach and Librarian in the Bibb County School System, mentoring many students and other teachers while supporting all the school extracurricular activities. Mrs. Stacy has a legacy for encouraging others to be the best they can be.

Even today, many former students attribute their success in life to her encouragement during their formative years. Active in her community, Mrs. Stacy was a Charter Member and President of the Brent Study Club, President of the Delta Zeta Alumnae, Red Cross Outstanding Volunteer and had numberous other accomplishments. In her church, she served as a Sunday School teacher, choir director and assistant organist.

An avid Alabama football fan, Mrs. Stacy was a member of the Denny Society and has provided scholarships to benefit young college students. In her later years, overseas travel with friends occupied much of her time. A true testament to the character of Mrs. Stacy is the number of people who truly love her and treat her as a family member.

Survivors included over 25 nieces an nephews and hundreds of young friends who call her “Aunt” Bernice. She is preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, George Stacy and by all her seven siblings.
