Shirley’s Obituary Lunenburg- Shirley Adele Blaser, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 30, 2018. Shirley was born in Buffalo, NY on December 14, 1927 to Adele and Allen Grieser. The second of five children, Shirley was predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Ray and her sister Ellen.
In 1953, Shirley met her future husband, George Blaser, on a blind date. Together, they raised five children in an age before microwaves, disposable diapers, cable TV, or the internet and built a family at once fiercely dedicated to one another and welcoming to all. The family moved to Lunenburg in 1970 and Shirley lived in the same house until her death.
Both Shirley and George fell in love with their adopted hometown. They were actively involved in Pop Warner, Little League and Youth Basketball, making many lifelong friends in the process. George predeceased Shirley in 2002 after 46 years of marriage.
Shirley had a deep and lifelong appreciation of orchestral music. In her youth, she was a violinist in a Buffalo area Youth Symphony Orchestra, along with her brother Ray, a pianist. She took great pride in her gardens, growing hundreds of tomatoes every year.
Shirley was an avid sports fan and was especially vocal during Celtics and Patriots games. She was very active and adventurous well into her 80s, traveling, gardening and even mowing her own lawn until just a few years ago. Shirley is survived by her sister.
Sherry Smith and her husband Harold of Texas Creek, CO; by her children, Ann (Blaser) Lemire and her husband Al of Manchester, NH, Tom and his wife Joanne (Westby-Gibson) of Newburyport, MA, Tim and his wife Karlene (Bresson) of Northborough, MA, Marc and his wife Kristine (Allen) of Woodinville WA, Chris and his husband Derrick Ingram of Boston, MA, and by special family friends Ron Ford and his wife Sharon of Bear, Delaware, as well as, 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. At her passing, Shirley was also the matriarch of a large extended family that includes many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and –nephews, and great-grand-nieces and -nephews. She took great pride in and derived immense joy from her entire family.
A memorial service will be held at on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. in the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 763 Massachusetts Avenue, Lunenburg, MA. Calling hours will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the services. There will be a Celebration of Life with friends and family at the Blaser home following the funeral.
