Obituary for Shirley Bartachek Shirley Lue Bartachek, age 78, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018, in McAllen, Texas, while wintering with her husband Jerry in Weslaco, Texas. Celebration of life services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 13th at the Grace Fellowship Church in Iowa City, Iowa with Pastor Gary Miller officiating. Grace Fellowship will be open at 9:00 am for individual viewing before the funeral service.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, December 12th at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, IA. Interment will be held at Hazleton Cemetery in Hazleton, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for The Gideons International using the Memorial Bible cards located at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home and at Grace Fellowship Church.

Memorial donations in memory of Shirley may also be made by mail to the Washington, IA, Gideon Camp, P.O. Box 23, Washington, IA 52353-0023. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent for Shirley’s family through the web at www.

jonesfh.com Shirley was born October 25, 1940, in Alliance, Nebraska, the daughter of Oscar Eugene and Bernadene (Sullivan) Dillon. She graduated from City High in Iowa City, received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Iowa and attended one year of post graduate school. Shirley was united in marriage to Charles Follmer on August 28, 1959, in Iowa City.

He preceded her in death in 1974. She married Jerry Louis Bartachek, Sr. on October 14, 1977, in Coralville, Iowa. Shirley worked as a site manager for Congregate Meals until her retirement in 2003.

She was a 4-H member, Boy Scout Cubs leader and PTA officer. She was a past member of the First Christian Church in Iowa City where she sang in the choir, served on the board of directors and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Grace Fellowship Church in Iowa City where she sang in the choir and served on the Greeter Committee.

She served as an Auxiliary officer for The Gideons International. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Bartachek Sr. of Washington, IA; daughter, Christine Nelson of Kyle, TX; stepson, Jerry Bartachek, Jr. of Hiawatha, IA; stepson, William Bartachek of Cedar Rapids, IA; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and sister, Sharon De Russy of Indian Harbour, FL. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Follmer; son, Rodney Stephen Follmer; and sister, Sandra Yoder.
