Shirley Owens Bennett passed away on November 9, 2018 in Rochester Hills surrounded by family. She was born on May 19, 1944 in Pensacola, Florida to the late Emmett and Jimmie Owens. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Diane, Eric (Christine), and Karen (Tom) Witham, grandchildren Lydia, Evan, Eli, Lucas, and Jacob and her siblings Charlotte Curry and Donald Owens.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Pieter in 1987. Shirley received her Master’s degree in social work from Western Michigan University. She worked as a social worker for Northview Public Schools for 20 years.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and helping everyone. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday November 16, 2018 at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

Visitation will be on Friday from 1-3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Donations may be made to: American Cancer Society 129 Jefferson Ave.
