Obituary for Shirley Dowden (Wilson) Shirley Jean Wilson Dowden, Jefferson City, Missouri passed away August 24, 2018 at St. Joseph Bluffs, Jefferson City, Missouri. She was born April 2, 1935 in Pickering, Missouri to the late Arthur Eugene and Louretta Hanna Wilson. She was a graduate of Maryville High School and Northwest Missouri State University, in Maryville, Missouri.

Graduate work was also done at the University. Shirley was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City, Legion of Mary Auxiliary, Immaculata Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and a past member of Missouri State Teacher’s Association, National Education Association, National Catholic Education Association and the International Reading Association. For 34 years she was a member of the faculty of Immaculate Conception School in Jefferson City, teaching grade two and later grade one.

Prior to that she taught in Kansas City, Maryville and Atlantic, Iowa. After retirement in 2010 she was a volunteer at Immaculate Conception school and served as a member of the tutoring staff with Jefferson City Public Schools. Survivors include two sons, Paul (Michelle) Dowden, Brentwood, Tennessee and Brian (Carla) Dowden, Jefferson City, six grandchildren, Jessica (Jesse) Mooney, Grand Prairie, Texas, Nicholas Dowden, Flower Mound, Texas and Shannon Dowden, Brentwood, Tennessee, and Ashley, Abigail and Andrew Dowden, Jefferson City, great-granddaughter Savannah Mooney, and brother Steve (Donna) Wilson, Maryville and her former husband and father of their children, Kenneth Dowden.

Her children and grandchildren were the most important part of her life. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brother, William Joseph Wilson and sister-in-law Ronda J. Wilson. Prayer Service will be held at 4:00pm Thursday, August 30, 2018, followed by visitation from 4:30-7:30pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jefferson City, where the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am Friday, August 31st, also at the church.

An additional visitation will be 9:30-10:30am Saturday, September 1, at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, followed by burial at 11:00am, White Oak Cemetery, Pickering, Missouri. Memorial donations are suggested for the University of Missouri Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Charity of choice. www.
