Obituary for Shirley Taylor Stone After a long illness, Shirley Taylor Stone, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and aunt, passed away peacefully at Life Care Center of Cleveland, TN, on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the age of 78. Shirley was born on October 13, 1939, to Alvie and Carrie Taylor, in Patrick County, Virginia. She graduated from George Washington High School in Danville, Virginia, in 1958 and on June 14, 1958, married her high school sweetheart, Jimmy Wayne Stone.

They raised one son and one daughter, Dan and Donna, and together, ministered as pastor and wife to churches in Pennsylvania and Virginia for more than 30 years. During their ministry and life together, Shirley was a faithful helpmate, serving as teacher, preschool director, and school principal, as well as working in a number of positions as an office manager outside the home. She was known for her beauty and graciousness, her radiant smile, her humor and charm, her ability to make every space she occupied lovelier (and cleaner), her Dutch Apple pie and banana pudding, and her faith and boundless compassion for those whose hearts needed healing.

She loved music and laughter, romantic movies, crossword puzzles, yellow roses, and above all else, her family. Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Alvie Taylor, and her mother, Carrie Moorefield Taylor. She is survived by her husband Jimmy Stone, her son Dan Stone, her daughter and son-in-law, Donna Stone Maye and Danny Maye, her granddaughter, Taylor Maye, her sisters Connie Taylor Clark (and husband, William Clark, III) and Nancy Taylor Burnette, her cousin Jennifer Moorefield, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Her family expresses sincere appreciation for the care provided by the doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, and administrative staff at Life Care Center of Cleveland (TN) and Hearth Hospice and also at Tennova Medical Group and hospital and Guardian Home Care and Hospice. A visitation and memorial service will be held at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Chapel in Cleveland on Tuesday, October 2. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. and the memorial service at 7 p.m. Flowers may be sent to Jim Rush Funeral And Cremation Services North Ocoee St. Chapel, 2600 N. Ocoee St. NW, Cleveland, TN, 37311.
