Portland – Shirley V. Bodnar passed away May 12, 2018. She was 77. Shirley was born in Torrington, Connecticut on August 18, 1940 to Leona (Sekulski) and Lester Marsh.

She retired as a clerk after working 20 years with Kmart. Shirley was a resident of Portland, Texas since 1977 and former resident of Austin, Texas. Shirley loved cats, birds and gardening.

She had a house full of plants. Shirley stayed busy working on crafts, sewing, baking and knitting. Shirley was a devoted Mother to her son, “Ty”, but was a mother and grandmother to many.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband: Stephen “Buddy” Bodnar, Jr.; her parents: Lester and Leona Marsh; in-laws: Stephen Bodnar, Sr. and Lillian O. Bodnar; and brothers-in-law: Alfred Badal and Edward Swaller. Survivors include her son: Stephen Bodnar, III from Portland, Texas; brothers: Lester “Bud” Marsh (Carol); William Marsh and Franklin Marsh (Bonnie), all from Connecticut; Peter Marsh from Rhode Island; Joseph Marsh (Susan) and John Marsh, all from Connecticut; sisters: Jane Badal from Ohio; Nancy Sloan from Connecticut and Susan Babkirk (Clive) from Virginia; sisters-in-law: Nelly Dearborn (Bryon) and Rhoda Swaller, all from Connecticut; and brothers-in-law: Thomas Bodnar; and Byron Bodnar (Sheila) from Kentucky. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018, 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Portland, Texas.
