Sidney Madison Iubelt was 12-years-old when she passed away on September 24, 2018. She is survived by her father and stepmother Frank Iubelt and Jenine Melko, her mother and stepfather Jackie and Jared Vogt, and her brothers Timothy and Riley Iubelt. She is also survived by many grandparents and great grandparents: Steve Iubelt, Sue and Gary Baggett, Darla Wills, Gladys Stanley, George Iubelt, Jay and Cheryl Jared, David and Sandy Anderson, Ambrose and Joanne Vogt, Denise Elliott and Thomas Melko.

Despite the many years Sidney endured treatment for leukemia, she remained a happy child with a unique sense of humor. To Sidney, every day was “the best day ever”. Going to play at a friend’s house brought her just as much joy as a trip to Disney World.

It was the simple things, like spending time to help build a sand castle or play pirates with her, that brought out her captive imagination. She loved to end every day with a dance party which included her characteristic booty-shake mixed with ballet. She loved putting on plays and concerts for her family and would dress in costume every day if we would let her.

Each performance had to be introduced by someone in a manner of her very specific choosing. She loved telling jokes even if she had trouble remembering them and had to ask how it went in the middle. She endured many challenges in her life but Sidney never let them consume her or stop her from dreaming of being a chef, a garbage collector, or a Braille librarian.

She loved to travel to see family; hanging with her grandparents, aunts and uncles and especially cousins brought her so much joy. Sidney had a big heart and wanted to help people, even if she didn’t know them. She would make beaded jewelry for friends, family and even people who she’d never met, just because she wanted to make them feel better.

She wanted to help kids in the hospital because “I know what it feels like to be there all the time, and I want to help them feel better” so she donated “backpacks of love,” as she called them, filled with blankets, socks, and comforting items. Sidney was involved with fundraising through an organization, St. Baldricks, that raised money to find better treatments and cures for pediatric cancer. Sidney managed to find fun in any activity she participated in.

Sidney will always be remembered as a quirky, joyful fighter who made it through each day with a smile. She loved with her whole heart and was loved by everyone who met her. Rest easy Sidney, you’ve earned it.
