Obituary for Sonja Pangle (Meyer) OPHELIA – Sonja Pangle, 66, peacefully departed this earth on Friday, December 21, 2018 with her husband of 48 years and children by her side. Born April 15, 1952, in Schopfloch, Germany, Sonja was the only child of Hans Meyer and Brunhilde Hahnlein. After moving to the United States in 1969, she met and married her husband in 1970.

They lived in Maryland and raised three daughters. Sonja worked for the Alzheimer’s Association and volunteered for multiple organizations. Sonja and her husband moved to Ophelia in 2006, where she wholeheartedly embraced her community.

Sonja was an active member of Afton United Methodist Church and volunteered at Rappahannock General Hospital. She enjoyed singing in the choir, helping with Vacation Bible School and fundraisers and many other community outreach activities. Sonja was an avid reader and gardener; she loved music and dancing.

Most of all, Sonja loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them more than anything. Sonja is survived by her husband, Robert L. Pangle; daughters Tanya Cable, Jennifer Pangle and Kristine Pangle; son-in-law Kevin Cable; grandchildren Miranda Cable, Caroline Cable and Rachel Cable; and stepfather Larry Verdon. Services will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Afton United Methodist Church in Heathsville, VA.

Visitation will be from noon to 1:00pm ET, Celebration of Life will begin at 1:00pm with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Afton United Methodist Church, 5130 Hacks Neck Road, P. O. Box 579,Burgess, Va 22432.
