Spencer Brown, age 93, of Crumpler, the Chestnut Hill community, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Born on September 18, 1924 in Ashe County to the late Walter and Tincie Reynolds Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife: Virginia Delp Brown, two brothers: Garland Brown and Burl Brown, two sisters: Dorothy Weaver and Logean Fox, two half-sisters: Cashie Moore and Virginia Sturgill, and one half-brother: Vince Brown.

Spencer retired from Sprague Electric Company. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a lifelong member and deacon at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by: two sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Joan Brown of Crumpler; and Roger and Brenda Brown of Jefferson, one daughter and son-in-law: Kathy and Meredith Roark of Deep Gap, four grandchildren: Patti Workman and husband, Mark, of Grassy Creek; Katina Wilcox and husband, David, of Crumpler, Brady Brown and wife, Kelly of Lansing; and Angie Roark of Advance, NC, one step-grandson: Devin Phipps and wife, Ashley, of Winston-Salem, NC, three great-grandchildren: Evan Halsey of Hickory, Matt Halsey of Statesville, and Savannah Wilcox of Crumpler; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family request no food please. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial gifts made to: Chestnut Hill Baptist Church.
