Spiro “Bud” Mitsos, 88, of Newburgh, passed away February 9, 2019. He was born September 30, 1930 in Gary, Indiana to the late John and Jessie (Morgan) Mitsos. Bud graduated from Lew Wallace High School and Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University).

He earned his Ph.D. in Psychology in 1955 from Purdue University. He served as the Executive Director of the Rehabilitation Center (Easter Seals), the superintendent of the Evansville State Hospital and was Clinical Director and board member of Res- Care, Inc. which he co-founded. Bud served many charitable and professional organizations, being generous with his time and talents.

He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Indiana State University in addition to ISU`s Distinguished Alum Award and William Albert Jones Medal. Bud was recognized as an Indiana Sagamore of the Wabash and a Kentucky Colonel. Bud is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia (Culver) Mitsos; daughters, Linda (David) Wright, Manina (Greg) Charnes, Lisa (John) Collins and Susan (Jim Fogarty) Mitsos; grandchildren, David (Matilde) Wright, John (Kate) Wright, Carmen (Dan) Cusic, Greg (Cari) Charnes, Nathan (Eva) Charnes, Ian (Kendra) Collins, Arlie Collins, Shannon (Mark) McCullough, Andrea ( Ryan) Cost; and 17 great grandchildren.

Bud was preceded by his first wife, Mary Rose (Perrone) Mitsos; daughter, Cynthia Chambers; sons, Robert Wagoner and David Wagoner, and brother, Paul Mitsos. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave. , Evansville.

Visitation will continue from 9:30 am until 10:00 am Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Rd. , Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am with Father Bernie Etienne officiating.

Entombment will be in St. John Mausoleum Newburgh.
