Obituary for Stanley Wereley ROCKLAND – Stanley James Wereley, 84, died peacefully, Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. Stanley was born July 23, 1934 in Albany, New York. Longing to be out on his own, he joined the Army when he was 16.
He spent most of his tour of duty overseas, Holland being his favorite region in the Netherlands. After his discharge, he went back to New York and worked as a taxi driver and a steel mill worker. He learned his managerial skill at the Huyck Felt Mill in Rensselayer, New York.
He was later sent to Camden, Maine to close the Knox Woolen Mill. He left there with many friendships. From Camden he went to Greenville, South Carolina to close another paper mill.
Upon retiring he returned to Rockland where he took a few odd jobs. Stan will be remembered as a wonderful man; the kind of great man you read about and wish you could of known. He was honest, charming and kind.
The consummate care giver. He enjoyed fishing, fast cars and CNN News. He was an avid reader.
He loved all animals and contributed monthly to various charities. Every morning he met his friends at McDonald’s for coffee where he so enjoyed the camaraderie. Predeceased by his parents and a daughter Lois many years ago; Stanley is survived by his sister, Shirley Smith of Florida; his three nieces, Sherry Secor and Robin Rosenzweig of Florida and Spring Smith of New York; an estranged son, Stephen of New York; and his partner of 35 years, Karen Snow Guenther.
He thought the world of his adopted sister-in-law and brother-in-law Susan and Stephen Lombardo, Sr. of Warren; as well as adopted nephews, Adam and Stephen Lombardo Jr. His cremated remains will be buried at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, at a later date. The family wishes to thank Rockland EMT’s, Fire Department and Police Department for their tireless efforts; as well as the Doctors, Nurses and staff of the Pen Bay Critical Care Unit and their loving neighbors for their love and support. Stan will be forever cherished and remembered.
