Obituary for Stephen P Dietz Stephen P. Dietz, loving husband, father, and grandfather, went home to the Lord on December 29, 2018. Born with his twin Michael on October 15, 1942 in Dallas, TX to Horace and Alma Jean Dietz. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Mixon on December 7, 1968 on Jekyll Island, Georgia.
They had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife Beth; his sons: Stan (Sheri), Rodney (Roberta), and Jeff (Sharon); and his 9 grandchildren: Chad, Cole (Amber), Connor (Kristen), Josh (Sarah), Niki, Clayton (Tasha), Samantha, Katie, and Elijah. He is also survived by his brother Gregg Dietz, sister Becky Dietz, brother-in-law Rex Reynolds, 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, and sister Judy Reynolds. Steve grew up in Dallas, played football for Paris High School, and graduated from W.W. Samuell HS. In the Army, he attained the rank of Captain, and flew UH-1 helicopter gunships, Tiger Sharks, 192nd AHC, in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart in 1968.
He then met Beth in Savannah while serving as a tactical helicopter instructor. After marrying and leaving the service, they moved to Texas where he completed his degree in business and then graduated from St. Mary’s Law School. After serving as a briefing attorney on the Thirteenth Court of Appeal, in Corpus Christi, he moved his family to McAllen, Texas.
Over four decades he practiced personal injury trial law in the Rio Grande Valley, as a partner at Ewers & Toothaker, in private practice, and then with Fred Loya Insurance before retiring. In July 2017, he and Beth moved to be with Jeff and his family in Springfield, VA. He enjoyed football, family, friends, his dogs, dancing, and learning new things.
He and Beth were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church, McAllen, Texas. Steve never failed to show kindness and compassion to strangers, was always filled with joy and enthusiasm for loved ones, had unwavering faith in God, demonstrated unimpeachable character, and modeled service to others. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on January 5, 2018 at Dalton & Son Funeral Home, 1550 N. Stemmons Fairway, Lewisville, Texas. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Fisher House in his memory.
