Susan E. Friend, age 63, of Underpass Road, died unexpectedly at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury Tuesday, March 19, 2019, with family around her. Susan was born in Newport VT, on August 14, 1955, daughter to the late Dale Francis and Jeannette Marguerite (Stevens) Gray. She was raised and educated in Lyndonville graduating from Lyndon Institute in the Class of 1973.

Later that year Suzie married Randy Friend, and they shared 45 years together; she loved him “to the moon and back”. They raised their family in South Barton, and Suzie was a stay at home mom until the children were in school. She then was employed at Vermont Beef Jerky for over 20 years.

Often Suzie would be singing and wasn’t bashful about it, leaving musical messages on peoples’ voicemail. She always made sure that no one left her home hungry, which was a quality she took from her mom. Suzie enjoyed crafts, loved her gardens, canned and made awesome pickles, read when she was able to find the time, solved Sudoku, and did jig-saw puzzles.

Though her best and greatest hobby was loving her grandchildren. Susan will be sorely and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her beloved husband, Randy, of Sutton, her 5 children: Sherri Friend of Waterbury, Nigel Friend and wife, Samantha, of Greensboro Bend, Zachary Friend and wife, Tracey, of Craftsbury, Jessie Mitchell and husband, Andrew H., of Lyndonville, Ethan Friend of Williston, a brother and 2 sisters: Clint Gray and wife, Mary, of Sutton, Connie Charron of E.
