Wyla R Salo , December 15, 1940 — March 05, 2019

During nearly four years of fighting a disease which severely affected her breathing, Wyla maintained her good spirits and cheerful attitude, making a new friend with everyone she met. Pulmonary fibrosis finally took away her last breath. Born in Wooster, Ohio, she grew up in Toledo, Ohio, attending the University of Toledo and finishing at Bowling Green State University where she earned a degree in textiles and fabrics.

She and her husband of nearly 55 years were married on October 24, 1964 in Toledo, Ohio. Following career opportunities, they lived on both coasts and in between, finally settling in Vermont 40 years ago, never again wanting to move anywhere else. As a real estate agent and local managing broker, she kept a very active schedule meeting and helping people.

Her desire to help people also led to volunteering at HOPE where she helped sort and price donations. She frequently brought home donated clothing to wash, repair and take back for later sale. Maintaining her life-long love of music, she played the French horn in the St. Johnsbury and Danville town bands for as many years as her lungs would allow.

When winter kept her from her garden, she read extensively, knitted or assembled an occasional jigsaw puzzle. She was happiest talking and joking with people and loved meeting new people. Her positive attitude and feisty spirit attracted many friends, but the most important lifetime friend was her husband Wil.

She enjoyed teaching, and taught high school classes early in her marriage. Wyla wasn’t able to pursue a full time teaching career, but she succeeded in teaching her sons to love, to be humble, and to embrace a solid set of core values to guide their lives. Surviving are her husband, Wilbur, two sons, Kirk and Steve and three grandchildren, Cameron, Connor and Zach, as well as a quirky cat named Hobbes who now misses his morning lap time.

Wyla was a warm, loving, energetic, and always cheerful person who touched many lives and hearts. She leaves an emptiness that will be impossible to fill. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.
