On Wednesday, July 25, Jesus took your hand from us even though we didn’t want to let go. We saw your strength fade and watched your smiles and laughter cease. Our only comfort is knowing that you are on your next journey in life walking with God and not in any more pain from the complications of your weakened heart.

On July 15, 1954, Susan started out her journey with her parents, Anthony and Emma Nemeth in Mishawaka, Indiana and grew up with her two sisters Laura J. Myers and Christine K. Popielski and her many cousins, aunts and uncles. She studied really hard and graduated from Penn High School in 1972 and made life-long friendships with many of her classmates, which she enjoyed seeing at reunions or just for a cup of coffee. After graduation, she followed her passion as a cosmetologist and attended Vogue Beauty College.

Along the way, she had a son, Tim M. Nemeth, that she was always proud of and two nephews, Keith A. Myers and Andrew D. Popielski, that she adored. She got to see Tim get married to Sara A. Quam and Keith get married to Kari Craft and have their first child, Kimber. Sue was a perfectionist at what she did and took a lot of pride in her work.

She was an artist in her trade and many of her customers knew she had a knack for matching hair color with her color chemistry skills. Some of the notable places that Sue worked as a hair stylist were both the older and newer Goldblatt’s stores, Sears, Trend Setters, Plaza Styling, Glenda’s Hair Port and many others. Along the way, she built strong relationships with her customers and met many different coworkers, many of which became loyal friends.

Susan and her sister, Laura, always enjoyed going to the Elks Club to attend the Friday Night Singles Dance. One unexpected night she met the man of her dreams. She hoped the following week he would return to the dance and Robert Padgett did.

In fact, they got married on July 11, 2003 and she settled in La Porte, Indiana. Bob made her very happy and gave her the love that she had always longed for. Susan enjoyed her hobbies.

She enjoyed collecting stuff and finding great deals at stores. Gardening was another one of her other favorite hobbies. Some people are just born with a green thumb and Susan had that gene.

She often would rescue dead marked down plants from stores and nurture them back to flourishing hardy plants. In her early years, she even threw a few strikes and picked up a split or two on her bowling league at Regal Lanes. Sue also enjoyed going with Bob and hitting a Triple Diamond or a string of Sizzling 7’s at the casino.

Sue always loved summer and going to the beach and going on nature walks. She loved the water and walking along the shoreline looking for shells and treasure. She would often take her son to the beach to go swimming or fishing especially at Potato Creek on Memorial Day or strolls along the walking trails at Blair Hills.

Her outpouring heart for animals never had limits. She cared for many cats throughout the years and their dog, Bella. Their furry little hearts would always light up her eyes.

Sue is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Padgett, of La Porte, her son and daughter-in-law, Tim (Sara) Nemeth of Burlington, KY, her nephew and niece-in-law, Keith (Kari) Myers of Camp Hill, PA, her nephew Andrew Popielski of South Bend, her great-niece, Kimber Myers of Camp Hill, PA, and her numerous extended family and friends circle. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 11:30am EST at Zahoran Funeral Home located at 1826 South Kemble Avenue, South Bend, IN. Visitation will be begin 2 hours prior to the funeral service.

Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society or pet rescue charity of the donor’s choice. To leave an online condolence, please visit our website at www.
