Suzanne Elizabeth Carnell , March 21, 1936 — December 29, 2018

SUZANNE ELIZABETH CARNELL March 21, 1936 – December 29, 2018 Suzanne Elizabeth Carnell was called home to the Lord at 82 years of age on December 29, 2018, on the Feast of King David. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 21, 1936, graduated from St. Teresa’s High School (Coral Gables), Florida State University (1957), and received Master’s Degrees in Science (1979) and Education (1983). Suzanne moved to Vero Beach in 1965 coming from Clear, Alaska.

Her parents, Elizabeth (“Betty”) Probst Lally and Lawrence (“Bud”) Griffin Lally predeceased Suzanne, as well as her brother, Patrick B. Lally. She is survived by her son, Richard M. Carnell, Jr., and his wife, Wendy, and her grandchildren, Kathryn and Jacob MacMillan (“Mac”); and her sister, Michaeleann (“Mikee”) Goss and husband Bill, their daughters, Jasmine and Ashley. Born: March 21, 1936 Death: December 29, 2018 Suzanne was a Lector and an Extraordinary Minister at St. Anastasia’s Catholic Church in Fort Pierce and served the Indian River County School District as a Middle School Science Teacher and Guidance Counselor for 29 years.

She was chosen Indian River County Teacher of the Year in 1985-1986. Notable events of her life included being a trapeze artist with the FSU flying circus, an equestrian, 4-H Leader and Instructor, one of the group of teachers selected to open Sebastian River Middle School (SRMS) in 1979, created and implemented the “Christmas Elf” program at SRMS. This program identified disadvantaged students each year and provided Christmas gifts.

She was a two time cancer survivor, an Alaska Special Olympics Volunteer a Master Gardener, aunt, grandmother and a Notre Dame mom. Suzanne led an incredible life and accomplished much. She did it on her terms with an admirable independent spirit.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the 4-H of Indian River County, Agricultural Extension, 4-H Youth Development, 1800 27th Street, Vero Beach, Florida 32960-0310 in memory of Suzanne E. Carnell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday January 3, 2019, at 2 pm at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church with visitation available at 1 pm. A private family interment will be held at a later date at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach, Florida.
