Obituary of Ted Dettor Nile “Ted” Dettor, age 61, born November 9, 1957 in Wheeling, WV, and formerly of Blountville, TN, currently residing in Mt. Carmel, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 26, 2019. He was a graduate of Sullivan Central High School and was a retiree of the Eastman Chemical Company with 32 years of service.

After retirement he was employed at BAE Systems in Kingsport. He had a great passion for his dogs, Buddy, Katu and Abbey. He enjoyed drag racing and University of Tennessee football.

Ted was a well-respected man in his career and many of his coworkers looked up to him as a mentor. Most of all, he was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Rylan Calhoun; parents, Nile and Mary Dettor, Sr.; sister, Carolyn Pierce and Katie Hall; and brother, Sam Dettor. He is survived by his son, Chris Dettor; daughter, April “Samantha” Dettor; 4 grandchildren, Caleb Calhoun, Stevey Dettor, Ashton Calhoun and Katelyn Dettor; 2 sisters, Patty Combs and Donna Arnold; mother of his children, Angela Mullins; friend, Susan Dettor; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in downtown Kingsport.

Funeral services will begin at 7:00 pm with Rev. Ronald Grimes officiating. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 1, 2019 at East Lawn Memorial Park.

All those wishing to attend the burial are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:45 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital or an animal shelter of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.
