Terence Valdon Nerhus was born to Kay and Valdon Nerhus on September 7th, 1957 at the Fort Dodge Trinity Regional Hospital. He grew up on a farm outside of Vincent where he was the oldest of 5 children. He began helping with chores and farming at a very young age and had a passion for it.
He attended Eagle Grove School until middle school and then transferred to Fort Dodge High School when his family moved to the family homestead outside of Badger. He graduated high school in 1975. After high school he worked for Chantlands while always helping on the family farm.
In 1980, he started farming full time and moved west of Badger where he also had a cow/calf operation. He met his love and best friend Joyce Charlson in 1982, and after a whirlwind romance, they married on November 27th of that year at CrossWay Evangelical Free Church in Fort Dodge. They were blessed with six beautiful children.
They had many happy years raising their kids while farming. He worked tirelessly and faithfully for his family. He and Joyce worked very hard on their acreage, and now it is a very welcoming place for family and friends.
Sharing a cup of coffee with visitors always made his day. For the past 12 years, Terry also worked for Star Energy. He was highly thought of by many of his customers, taking much time visiting with them, truly caring about their lives.
Many have commented that he was the kindest man they have ever known. His relationship with Jesus is what shaped him and made him into the husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, friend and stranger he was. He will be forever in our hearts and missed beyond words can express.
We are truly all better for having him touch our lives. He enjoyed attending church functions and serving at CrossWay Church and Community Christian School in Fort Dodge, making Saturday morning breakfast for his family, traveling with his wife, doting on his grandkids and boating at the lake. He is survived by his spouse, Joyce Nerhus; his children: Melanie (Dave) Boehnke of Garner, Lucas (Raena) Nerhus of Urbandale, Austin (Lindsey) Nerhus of Badger, Loren Nerhus of West Des Moines, Spencer Nerhus of Fort Dodge and Preston Nerhus of Ames; his mother Kay (Nerhus) Larson (Brian Larson); 4 grandsons: Charles, Samuel, Andrew, Graham and unborn granddaughter; siblings: Randal Nerhus, Tim (Karen) Nerhus, Scott (Paula) Nerhus and Valori (Brad) Bross.
