Terry’s Obituary Terry Glen Hawkins, age 66, of Dumas, Arkansas, passed away on February 24, 2019 at Delta Memorial Hospital in Dumas. He was born July 10, 1952 in Great Bend, KS and was the son of the late Martha Jane Ballard Hawkins and Homer Glen Hawkins. He was a member of the Dumas First United Methodist Church.

Terry was a Monticello native, graduating in 1970 from Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, TN and earned a BA degree from UAM in 1974. He held associate editor and managing editor positions at the Dumas Clarion from 1974-1981 and 1982-1986 in addition to managing editor of the Nashville News and the Courier News in Blytheville. He returned to the Dumas Clarion in 1992 as assistant to the publisher, Charlotte Schexnayder, and remained on staff for 26 additional years rising to position of publisher.

Terry won numerous awards including the APW contest sweepstakes and National Federation of Press Women Sweepstakes Award Communication Contest in 2007. He was an early member and longtime secretary- treasurer of the Arkansas Press Women’s Association and won multiple Arkansas Press Association awards. Terry was very active in the Dumas community and held many positions on the Dumas First United Methodist Church Administrative Council, Dumas Area Arts Council, Dumas Chamber of Commerce, Desha County Museum and Main Street Dumas.

Terry was crowned Ding Dong Daddy of Dumas in July 1997 and was a true ambassador of the city. He is survived by a sister, Vicki Lynn Hawkins Friscia of San Carlos, CA, a brother, Phil Craig Hawkins of Little Rock, AR and a niece, Ashley Christine Friscia Coffey (Sarah Rose) of Mountain View, CA and his beloved dogs, Eddie & Hera Sue. A memorial service will be held on February 27, 2019 at 4 pm at the Dumas First United Methodist Church with Rev.
