Thelma “Sis” Frantom April 29, 1929 – December 22, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Thelma I. “Sis” Frantom, 91, of Shaffer Lane, Sugarloaf, died Saturday evening at The Manor at St. Luke Village, Hazleton. Born in St. Johns, April 29, 1927, she was a daughter of the late William and Ellen (Eckrote) Shaffer and spent her entire life in the area. Sis was a 1945 graduate of Black Creek Township High School in Rock Glen, PA and for several years was employed as a sewing machine operator for various garment factories.

She was a member of St. Johns Primitive Methodist Church, Hazleton and most recently attended Conyngham United Methodist Church. She was very active at St. Johns serving as steward member of The Cross and Crown Sunday School Class, church Trustee and member of the Lady’s Auxiliary. She served as head of the kitchen for a number of years and took part in most any activity the church was involved with.

For many years, Thelma was a member of the Women’s Protestant Bowling League. She loved to spend time camping and traveling the country and her family and friends knew her to be a wonderful cook and baker. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents were her sister Helen Polgrean; brothers Harold Shaffer, Raymond Shaffer, Marvin Shaffer, Gerald Shaffer and Meral Shaffer and infant brother Donald Shaffer.

Surviving are her husband of 69 years, Raymond Frantom; brothers Victor Shaffer of Sugarloaf and Kenneth Shaffer and his wife Dorothy of Drums along with several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM from the Hazle Chapel of Krapf and Hughes Funeral Home, Inc. 426 West Broad Street, Hazleton. Sis’s former pastor Rev.

Neil Smith will preside. Burial will take place in the Conyngham Union Cemetery, Conyngham. Friends may call a the Hazle Chapel Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Memorial donations to the St. Johns Primitive Methodist Church, 313 East Juniper Street, Hazleton, PA 18201 or to the Conyngham United Methodist Church, 411 Main Street, PO Box AB, Conyngham, PA 18219 are welcomed by the family.
