Obituary for Therese Melvin Therese E. Melvin, age, 71 of Columbus, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2018 at home following an extended illness. She was born in Portsmouth to the late Louis Melvin and Dorothy Knittel Melvin. She was a member of the first graduating class of St. Francis DeSales High School.

At the age of 17, she began working at The Ohio State University, retiring after 34 years of service. She never married nor had children; she devoted her life to the Lord. A dedicated and active member of St. James the Less, also a member of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal for many years.

She had a beautiful connecting spirit. Anyone that had the pleasure of meeting her felt her love. She lived a wonderful life close to her family.

She never left home so she always had her mother’s and sister’s home cooking – what a blessing! Every friend she had touched her life dearly; she cherished the memories. She enjoyed music, watching others dance, movies, going out to eat, and movie theatres.

Her dream was to go to Paris, France one day. She loved animals; there was always an animal in her home. Survived by her cat, Sidney; dog, Alfie; great niece; DeVona Ashbrook (boyfriend, Benjamin Lacey) of Columbus, Ohio; great niece, Brentny (Levi) Riehl of Johnstown, Ohio; great great niece, Zadi Ashbrook of Galena, Ohio; brother-in-law, Joseph Gall of Galena; niece, Yvonne Gall of Westerville, Ohio; niece, Julie Ashbrook of Bucyrus.

She is also preceded in death by her sister, Mary A. Gall; brother, John Melvin; niece, Cynthia Gall; and great great nephew Tristan Griffith. Friends will be received from 4-7pm Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Schoedinger Linden Memorial Chapel, 2741 Cleveland Avenue, where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 1652 Oakland Park Avenue; interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
