OBITUARY Thomas A. Owen Jr. D.C., Ph.C.,F.A.P.C. February 7, 1931 – August 31, 2018 Dr. Thomas A. Owen, Jr., age 87, of Jacksonville, FL, passed peacefully in his sleep at home on 8/31/2018. He was born in Ocilla, GA and raised in Melbourne, FL.
He was a graduate of Melbourne High School with the Class of 1948. He married the love of his life, Jacqueline Lenora Fields on 9/4/1953 and later received his Doctorate in Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, IA on 3/1/1955. He began practicing in the Jacksonville area in 1958 at the 21st Avenue location and continued in the area and in the southeast for over 35 years.
He was instrumental in helping fellow chiropractors develop and nurture their own successful practices from the very beginning. Such was his passion for fellow chiropractors and the well being of others, that he continued to expand in knowledge, understanding, skill and compassion, developing in his profession, to the extent that it is impossible to number neither the thousands of doctors he helped to establish, thrive, and succeed in their chiropractic practices and lives in general nor the hundreds of thousands of patient lives thereby impacted with health across the nation and internationally as well. He actively continued in consulting and providing input to his very final days.
Dr. Owen was a lover of life itself: living, loving and giving with great vibrato. He thoroughly loved flying, motorcycling and especially boating. He loved sunrises, mountain tops, water views, gospel quartets, music of many types, the Lord, His Word, his family (children, grandchildren and great-grandchild) immensely, but most of all his Jackie.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jackie; daughters, Chrisaundra Lee Owen-Reese, Lahoma Suzanne Renegar (Jeffrey T. Renegar); son, Thomas Alvin Owen III (Christine Hake Owen); grandchildren, Austin Renegar (Christi Osborne Renegar), Olivia Renegar Cashon (David Cashon), Fletcher Renegar, Emily Owen-Reese, Sarah Owen-Reese, Drew Owen, Mikayla Owen; great-granddaughter, Sophia Cashon; sisters, Linda, Gwenell; brothers: Jim, George; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Gilbert Thomas Owen (9/13/55 – 8/16/68); parents Thomas A. Owen, Sr., Gwendolyn (Owen) and Sidney Platt; sisters, Marilyn and Dorothy. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 pm on Friday, 9/7/18 at the HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd.
, Jacksonville Beach. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, 9/8/18 with visitation from 12:30 pm until the time of services at Beaches Chapel Church, 610 Florida Blvd. , Neptune Beach.
